As a government provision published on the Official Newspaper of the State of Quintana Roo on December 20th, 2018, and reformed on December 23rd, 2022, the environmental cleansing taxes are stated in articles 147, 147 bis, 148, 149, and 150 of the Taxpayer Law of the Municipality of Benito Juárez (Cancun) in the State of Quintana Roo, and in articles 139, 140, 141, 142, and 143 of the Taxpayer Law in the Municipality of Tulum, published on December 19th, 2022 on the aforementioned official newspaper:

"Any user or users of rooms and/or bedrooms in hotels, inns, guest houses, hostels, and motels, are obliged to pay an environmental cleansing fee, which shall be collected by the industry service provider."

In lodging, there is a direct charge at reception for environmental sanitation rights and a resort fee charge of $185 MXN per room per night for all beach hotels. For the Smart Cancún hotels and Oh! The Urban Oasis, the charge will be $140 MXN per room per night.

This tax is not included in the all-inclusive room rate.
