Dia de muertos is a traditional Mexican and Mesoamerican celebration that honors the dead and takes place on November 1st and 2nd.
The passage from life to death is an emblematic moment that has caused admiration, uncertainty and fear to mankind throughout history. Over the years, beliefs about death have been generated in different cultures, which have managed to develop rites and traditions either to scare it away, venerate it, honor it or even make fun of it.
One of the main aspects of the Mexican identity is the concept of life and death, and all the beliefs and traditions that revolve around it, as is the tradition of celebrating Dia de Muertos.
This tradition began as part of the religious syncretism of the colonial era, since during the pre-Hispanic stage the cult of death was very present throughout Mexico.
In this day, families from all over the country gather to bring offerings to the deceased, which have a meaning and motive that consist of the placement of an altar covered with cempasuchil petals, photos of deceased loved ones, as well as their favorite food and drinks.
The ritual of the offering begins on the night of October 31st with the placement of the altar, which receives the souls of children who arrive on November 1st; the next day the souls of adults arrive, and the offerings must be withdrawn on November 3rd.
The altars where the offerings are located usually consist of one or two levels, which symbolize earth, heaven and the purgatory; but there are traditions in which the altars have up to 7 levels which represent all the stages that the soul goes through before achieving eternal rest.
The meaning of the offerings:
Cempasuchil flowers:
Help the deceased to find their way to the offering, thanks to their color and scent.
Velvet flowers:
Symbolizes the duel of the loss.
Candles:
They must be white and symbolize the purity of the dead. The light helps souls find their home and their return to the afterlife.
Sugar Skulls:
They represent the deceased, and must have their name on their foreheads.
Photographs:
A memory of the dead in life.
Water:
Quenches the thirst of the deceased, purifies their soul and gives them strength to return to the afterlife.
Pecked paper:
It represents the air, one of the four elements that must always be present in the offering.
Incense:
It repels evil spirits.
Food:
Part of the tradition is placing the deceased’s favorite food or drink.
Salt:
It prevents the soul from being corrupted on its way back to the afterlife and ensures its return the following year.
Pan de Muerto:
Represents the deceased.
The cross:
It brings a religious meaning to the veneration of the dead.
The bedroll:
It serves as a resting place for the deceased.
Sweets:
They entertain the souls of children.

El Día de Muertos es una celebración tradicional mexicana y mesoamericana que honra a los muertos y tiene lugar los días 1° y 2 de noviembre.
El paso de la vida a la muerte es un momento emblemático que ha causado admiración, incertidumbre y temor al ser humano a través de la historia. A lo largo de los años, en distintas culturas se han generado creencias en torno a la muerte, las cuales han logrado desarrollar ritos y tradiciones ya sea para espantarla, venerarla, honrarla o hasta incluso burlarse de ella.
Uno de los aspectos principales de la identidad nacional mexicana es el concepto de la vida y la muerte, y todas las creencias y tradiciones que giran en torno a ella, como lo es la tradición de celebrar el Día de Muertos.
Esta tradición surge como parte del sincretismo religioso de la época colonial, ya que durante la etapa prehispánica, el culto a la muerte estuvo muy presente en todo el país.
Durante este día, familias de todo el país se reúnen para llevar ofrendas a los difuntos, las cuales tienen un significado y motivo; consisten en la colocación de un altar cubierto con pétalos de cempasúchil, fotos de seres queridos difuntos, así como sus alimentos y cosas favoritas.
El ritual de la ofrenda comienza la noche del 31 de octubre con la colocación del altar para recibir a las almas de los niños que llegan el 1° de noviembre, al día siguiente llegan las almas de los adultos y la ofrenda debe ser retirada el 3 de noviembre.
Los altares donde se ubican las ofrendas normalmente constan de uno o dos pisos, los cuales simbolizan la tierra, el cielo y el purgatorio; pero existen tradiciones en las que los altares cuentan con hasta 7 pisos, los cuales representan todas las etapas por las que pasa el alma antes de obtener un eterno descanso.
El significado de las ofrendas:
Cempasúchil:
Ayuda a los difuntos a encontrar el camino hacia la ofrenda gracias a su color y aroma.
Flor de terciopelo:
Simboliza el duelo por la pérdida.
Velas o cirios:
Deben ser de color blanco y simbolizan la pureza de los difuntos. La luz ayuda a las almas a encontrar su casa y a regresar al más allá.
Calaveritas de azúcar:
Representan a los difuntos, por eso deben llevar su nombre en la frente.
Fotografías:
Un recuerdo de los difuntos en vida.
Agua:
Sacia la sed del difunto, purifica el alma y da fuerzas para el regreso.
Papel picado:
Representa el aire, uno de los cuatro elementos que siempre debe de estar presente en la ofrenda.
Incienso o copal:
Ahuyenta a los malos espíritus.
Comida:
Se acostumbra colocar la comida o bebida favorita del difunto.
Sal:
Evita que el alma se corrompa en el viaje de vuelta y así asegura el regreso al año siguiente.
Pan de muerto:
Representa a los difuntos.
La cruz:
Aporta un significado religioso a la veneración de los muertos.
Petate:
Sirve como lugar de descanso para los difuntos.
Dulces:
Agasajan a las almas de los niños.

Durante la convención se llevarán a cabo ponencias, procesos de aprobación de las clasificaciones mundiales, clínicas médicas, seminarios para oficiales de ring, jueces, y réferis, así como el nombramiento de retadores oficiales para cada campeón en las diecisiete divisiones (paja, mini mosca, mosca, súper mosca, gallo, súper gallo, pluma, súper pluma, ligero, súper ligero, wélter, súper wélter, mediano, súper mediano, medio pesado, crucero y pesado).
La convención del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo, brinda la oportunidad de convivir y compartir experiencias, mientras refuerza lazos entre los miembros del consejo, los cuales incluyen a muchos campeones actuales y leyendas que han hecho historia en el WBC.
