The founding of Valle de Bravo by Franciscan friars dates back to 1530, and the city was named after General Nicolás Bravo, who was part of the Trigarante Army, a crucial component of achieving Mexican independence in 1821.

Lake Valle de Bravo

Before being called Valle de Bravo, this region was known as Temascaltepec, a farming town, until 1937, when a project was launched to boost the area’s economy. The project began with the Miguel Alemán Hydroelectric System, whose construction required flooding 2,900 hectares of agricultural land. This was the origin of this artificial lake, which currently attracts a large number of tourists.
