Tecámac, State of Mexico

This territory known as Tecámac de Felipe Villanueva is part of the metropolitan area of the Valley of Mexico. Tecámac is one of the 125 municipalities that make up the State of Mexico.

Its original name is actually Tecámac, but the head of it honors a musician of the territory. In the Nahuatl language, from which its name derives, it is the translation of the union between mouth and stone.

Municipality of Tecámac

This municipality was founded as far back as 1202 by the Mexicas. Besides being the birthplace of one of the most outstanding musicians and composers such as Felipe Villanueva, it has an endless number of tourist attractions.

First of all, a route that every tourist likes is the one that includes cultural attractions. Among the many historical monuments of the place are the religious buildings that were built during the colonial era, such as the Parroquia de la Cruz, the Church of San Pablo Tecalco or the church of San Pedro Atzompa.

In addition to this and other religious buildings, you can also find old houses or haciendas that were used for livestock or agriculture. You can’t miss the stone bridge, which dates back to the time of the Viceroyalty and was very important to connect territories.

Tecámac is also known for its festivities, specifically for the traditional Pulque fair in San Pablo Tecalco, which is celebrated every year on November 20. Festivities are also held in its bullring, as well as in its open-air theater.

As for natural attractions, Tecámac has the Sierra Hermosa Ecological Park, perfect for those who need a dose of nature even during their days off.
