Gastronomy in Mexico

Mexican cuisine has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010, thanks to its variety, tradition, and diverse recipes.

Gastronomy of Sonora

Although you can enjoy typical dishes from all over the country in Sonora, there are certainly certain recipes that are unique to this territory. For example, one of the savory delicacies you can order wherever you go in Sonora is tamales.

Tamales are one of the pre-Hispanic recipes prepared for major celebrations. They are a dish filled with any type of meat, vegetables, and/or legumes. They are simple to prepare: they are wrapped in corn husks, filled, and steamed.

Meats are also typical in this area, whether as an additional ingredient in a dish, as a filling for burritos, or as a main course. During colder weather, broths and soups with regional seasonings and spices are popular.

Gastronomy of Michoacán

It’s believed that many of Mexico’s most valued and popular recipes originated in Michoacán, making it one of the states with the greatest culinary richness in the world. That’s why when you visit Michoacán, you shouldn’t miss trying the different options we describe below.

First, let’s mention the delicious Michoacan carnitas, some of the tastiest in the entire country. They’re prepared with spices, which are mostly only found in the region, as well as abundant lard or with hints of citrus—delicious!

Gastronomy in Puebla

We can’t fail to mention the incredible recipe for mole poblano, one of the most famous in the world. It has been imitated in various internationally renowned restaurants, but it will never surpass the skills of the locals of Puebla.

This is a dish made with chili peppers, chocolate, spices, nuts, and other ingredients that come together to create one of the darkest sauces known. Once made, it’s usually poured over chicken and garnished with sesame seeds.

Gastronomy of Mexico City

The great thing about Mexico City is that, as the capital, you can find a wide variety of dishes offered throughout the country. A great option is to order tacos, chilaquiles, or quesadillas as starters. To continue, we recommend ordering a burrito, a rolled tortilla filled with beans, avocado, onion, and meat, among other things.

Jalisco Gastronomy

Jalisco’s popular cuisine also includes recipes and preparations unique to the country. These legendary traditional recipes can be prepared for everyday use as well as for special occasions. One such dish is pozole, a thick broth made from corn kernels to which meat, various vegetables, and spices are added.
