Akumal, the Land of Turtles

Tour con tortugas en Akumal

Its name in Mayan language means land of turtles, and this is due to the fact that the beach of the town of Akumal becomes the place chosen by this long-lived animal to lay its eggs.

Please note that these areas are carefully protected, so they are delimited by buoys and are not always accessible to the public. However, you have the opportunity to observe the turtles up close if you hire the services of a professional guide. The tours or excursions are usually no more than six people and you must keep a safe distance from the turtles.

Depending on the tour you choose, you will be provided with the appropriate equipment, and if not, you will need to bring the appropriate clothing, such as snorkeling goggles, fins and a snorkel.

It will be its beach with fine, white sand and turquoise water, which will make you not want to leave and want to continue enjoying the great experience of admiring the turtles.

If you have been left with the desire to continue observing these amazing animals in some other part of Mexico, we recommend you to read what to do in Isla Mujeres, where you will discover the famous turtle farm.
