57th World Boxing Council
The World Boxing Council is the organism responsible for sanctioning world boxing championships, and it was created by 11 countries in order to unify and control the expansion of this sport.
This year the venue of the event will be the city of Cancun during the week of October 20th -26th, with the sole purpose of enriching and updating the sport; bringing together international boxing stars putting always safety and health first.
During the convention there will be presentations, approval processes for world classifications, medical clinics, seminars for ring officers, judges, and referees, as well as the appointment of official challengers for each champion in the seventeen divisions (minimun weight, light flyweight, flyweight, super flyweight, bantam weight, super bantam weight, featherweight, super featherweight, lightweight, super lightweight, welterweight, super welterweight, middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight, cruiserweight, and heavyweight).
The World Boxing Council convention provides the opportunity to share experiences, while strengthening ties between council members, which include many current champions and legends that have made history on the WBC. An example of this is the coronation of Muhammad Ali as the all-time king of boxing, which was also held during this event in the city of Cancun in the year 2012.
