Muyil, Tulum

If you have not yet visited the stupendous lagoon of Chunyaxche or Muyil, you are late in reserving a time to do so. These natural treasures are located in the middle of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve in Quintana Roo.

You can visit it throughout the year, and its schedule is from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The entrance fee is 29 Mexican pesos, although if you go on Sunday, it will be totally free if you are a Mexican citizen. It is also free for children under 13 years of age, students, teachers, among others.

The Sian Ka’an reserve was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987, a natural area full of coasts, swamps and jungles. There you can reconnect with nature if your day to day life is the big city, enjoy the clean air and visit the two lagoons Muyil and Chunyaxche.

Of course, another great must-do activity during your visit to Muyil is to head to the archaeological zone. Here you can enjoy both the jungle vegetation and the incredible views of the Caribbean Sea. It is considered one of the 20 most important archaeological areas in Quintana Roo.

When you begin your tour of the Mayan ruins, you will first see the area of the Entrance Group, where the buildings, basements, temples and altars predominate. You will continue your adventure through the rainforest until you reach the amazing 17 meter high temple, which is known as El Castillo. This has two important altars in which great finds have been found.

Do not miss the structure called Temple 8, built on a pyramidal base with two entrances. As you can see for yourself, there are countless secrets in this archaeological zone.
