Cenotes in Valladolid
If you are organizing a great vacation in Valladolid but are still looking for all the cenotes available to visit in the territory, this short but intense list will help you make your next route.
The Suytun cenote
Visit the Suytun cenote to get a close look at a natural creation in the Riviera Maya. Its popularity lies in the fact that it is an open or young cenote, a typology that refers to the fact that it is still inside a cave and the passage of time is hardly noticeable. Inside this rock cylinder are stalactites, stalagmites, falling tree vines and inhabitants of all kinds.
It is located in the livestock center of the tourist complex of the same name. There you can reserve one of the 18 cabins for a sustainable tourism very demanded nowadays. If you finally stay there, you have the possibility to see the other nearby cenote: Suytun Kaa Pe.
Oxman Cenote
Another of the treasures that currently exist in Valladolid is the Oxman cenote, in the Hacienda de San Lorenzo. You will have to go from the colonial city to this small territory to later descend a spiral staircase.
Although it may seem remote, it will be well worth the trip, as many tourists prefer to visit bigger name cenotes instead of these small hidden gems.
Sac Aua Cenote
This curious cenote houses a small sand island, a fact that has made it one of the most special cenotes in existence. Another of its great virtues is that it is not as well known as it should be, so it is not crowded and can be visited quietly.
Inside the cenote there are all kinds of services to meet your needs, as well as the possibility of hiring tour guides. There are also several species of flora and fauna that you will enjoy discovering.
It is also known as the Cenote of the Maidens because of the obscure use it was put to in the past: it is said that it was a place where women were sacrificed. It is currently a semi-open type cenote, due to the passage of time and its transformation.
Xcanche Cenote
Access it by a spiral staircase and be dazzled by the majestic view of rocks, stalactites and stalagmites that characterize it. It is the sun’s rays that turn this place into a paradise with transparent waters.
The depth of the Xcanche cenote is not entirely clear, as it has different levels in its more than 90 meters in diameter, a characteristic that makes it a perfect place for diving or kayaking.
Chukum Cenote
It will be its 40 meters in diameter and its dense vegetation that will catch you. This ancient cenote gets its name from the trees that surround it, the Chukum.
It is located inside one of the famous traditional Yucatecan haciendas. The schedule to visit the Chukum cenote is from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.
