The return of the Champion

Molina vs Bundrage

Showdown at Sundown

A spectacular night of boxing took place this Saturday 11 October in the Oasis Arena at the Grand Oasis Cancun Hotel, where Mexican Carlos Molina lost his IBF super welterweight belt to veteran American, Cornelius ‘K9’ Bundrage. Regardless of his impressive physique coming into the fight, few thought the 41 year old Detroit native would win this bout bearing in mind he is at an age considered past it for most boxers.

However, experience prevailed, and after 12 grueling rounds, in which Molina was knocked down twice, Bundrage won a unanimous decision dethroning the champion and showing that, despite the difference in age, preparation and experience were the most potent weapons in the ring on the night.

The impeccable production of Pepe Gomez and Cancun Boxing brought us another outstanding night of entertainment, full of excitement, glitz and glamour. Watching from ringside were a few famous faces, including actor Walter Jones, who rose to fame as the black Power Ranger in the television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, martial arts expert Master Ken Smith and acclaimed music producer Howard Stroman.

The wonderful occasion at Oasis Arena proved to be another successful sporting event that further helped to position Cancun as a destination aiming to compete with others, like Las Vegas and Dallas, in hosting events of this kind.
