This monthGrand Oasis Cancun will host the 6th edition of the Oasis Jazz U festival and as expected, it will feature international artists. This edition of the festival focuses on smooth jazz  and will be held from May 18 to 27.

Hiram Gomez y The Groove Machine Band en Kinky Night Club

Our friends Hiram Gomez and his Groove Machine Band return to perform once again at this festival, having previously performed in the 2015 and 2016 editions, they will be the ones to kick off the Oasis Jazz U on Thursday, May 18 at our Kinky Night Club, right next to our Arena. Surely, many of you have already heard of Hiram and his band, as they frequently perform at other resorts in the city.

Marcus Miller – Oasis Arena (Saturday, May 20)

We will welcome American jazzman, producer and multi-instrumentalist Marcus Miller to the Oasis Arena on Saturday, May 20. The two-time Grammy winner has worked with leading artists such as Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra and Aretha Franklin and was part of the live band for the show Saturday Night Live. This New Yorker, best known for his bass playing, will bring his signature funky sound to the Arena for what promises to be an incredible night of jazz.

Before Marcus, the Cuban artist, resident in Cancun, will perform. Peñalver, who is already known for his saxophone performances are his Latin Project at last year’s Cancun International Music Festival where he was also the artistic director.

Esperanza Spalding – Oasis Arena (Saturday, May 27)

Jazz bassist and singer Esperanza Spalding will fill the Arena with her grace on Saturday the 27th. The American, raised in   Portland, Oregon, was a child prodigy who played violin at the Chamber Music Society of Oregon from the age of 5. Today and at 32 years old, he has released five solo albums, won  four Grammys including “Best New Artist” in 2011. In her performances, Esperanza alternates between double bass and electric bass and sings in English, Portuguese and Spanish.

That same night, will be performing the psychedelic jazz band Troker, originally from Guadalajara, Mexico. Their characteristic and modern sound is due to the mix of traditional jazz, rock and even the use of the turntable.

It is worth mentioning that Oasis Jazz U is also for a good cause, as part of the proceeds will go to the Oasis Foundation, which helps other local organizations and associations.
