Sumidero Canyon National Park

This impressive Natural Park in Mexico originated from geological faults. It has more than 20 hectares of vegetation, nature and much to discover. Various types of activities are available, from hiking and biking to rappelling and climbing.

It has been a natural and protected area for more than 30 years. In 1980 it was considered a National Park, in addition to being included in the Ramsar list of wetlands. All kinds of species live there, including some that you will not be able to see anywhere else in the country, such as several types of salamanders.

Viewpoints of Sumidero Canyon

The viewpoints of the Sumidero Canyon are the main attraction for thousands of visitors throughout the year. They are approximately one kilometer high and have a distance of more than 15 kilometers, so the view of them is totally impressive according to the testimonies of all those who climb them.

To do the route of the viewpoints, you have to follow a route: first you will go to the viewpoint La Ceiba, La Coyota, El Roblar, Tepehuaje, Los Chiapa to finish in La Atalaya. The first recommended place to visit is La Ceiba, where the views are unparalleled. Several towns and the Sumidero Canyon can be seen in the distance.

To continue with this beautiful tour, continue to La Coyota viewpoint, where the walls of the Grand Canyon are more visible, and you can stop to rest. We continue through El Roblar, which is a little different because the road intermingles with the nature of the National Park, and it is also easy to find small animals that will come to say hello.

The fourth viewpoint is Tepehuaje, also unique for its view of the Grijalva River. As in the previous trail, you will find species of animals that you will not see anywhere else, as well as trees and bushes of all kinds. Catch your breath to continue to Los Chiapa, almost at the end of your tour, where the views seem out of this world.

Finally you will have reached the last and most impressive viewpoint of the Sumidero Canyon, La Atalaya. Even if you don’t think so, the effort will be worth it for the views (as well as for the incredible pictures you will take).
