Punta Allen, the hidden village

Punta Allen paradise

If you are one of those who are looking for special places to visit but are put off by the fact that many people know about them, Punta Allen will fascinate you. It is a small town in the Riviera Maya that is not yet a major tourist attraction.

Punta Allen, Tulum

Punta Allen is a fishing village known as the ”gateway to heaven”. This remote place still has the great fortune of not being a holiday destination to use, so you can live a great vacation in a dream place. Being a remote and uncrowded territory, you should know that prices in town are higher than in other areas of the Caribbean coast.

It is true that one of its disadvantages is the journey to get there, as it takes many hours and the road is not entirely comfortable, but you will like what it has to offer. It is part of the Sian Ka’an nature reserve, where nature, great landscapes, animals and tranquility reign.

Within this fantastic natural setting is Punta Allen. The few inhabitants of the territory continue to live in a somewhat precarious situation, but it is compensated by being totally removed from the constant bustle of the city or the hotel zones.

Punta Allen Quintana Roo

For access to the Sian Ka’an Natural Reserve in which Punta Allen is located, there is an entrance fee of approximately 90 Mexican pesos. It is advisable in this area of Quintana Roo to carry cash, since internet connections here are scarce and last only a couple of hours during the day.

There are different activities or tours that can be done in Punta Allen, some focused on aquatic or adventure activities, walks, getting to know the area, among others.

First of all, we recommend snorkeling or scuba diving near or in the vicinity of the reef. Among the different marine animals you will find are dolphins, turtles and an endless number of multicolored fish.

If you do not feel like getting wet or you go to Punta Allen for a quick visit and do not miss anything, the most comfortable way is to hire a boat tour to see all the landscapes, the lagoon, the different animals that inhabit the area… There are exclusive tours inside the lagoon, which although they are more expensive, you will have more knowledge of the area and its secrets.

You can also observe the territory by bicycle, as there are locals who rent by the hour or even by the day.

Punta Allen Lighthouse

One of the best views you will have of the Sian Ka’an Natural Reserve is from the top of the Punta Allen lighthouse. You will see from the greenest vegetation to the blue waters of the beach. Take great pictures to frame them later or just to have a sweet souvenir of your Tulum vacation.
