Ixtapaluca would be translated as place where salt is wet. This Mexican municipality was granted the rank of municipality in 1820. It would be almost 100 years before the territory began the process of industrialization and achieved one of its major livelihoods: the El Tigre gypsum factory.

Close to the Chalco Valley, the municipality of Ixtapalucati has more than 300 square kilometers whose mountainous geography has given it some of the most beautiful natural attractions you can find: the hills of Tlaloc, Telapón or Cabeza de Toro.

If you like animals, you should know that there is a magnificent aviary where you can find exotic birds from different parts of the world or an area of felines that, like the birds, have been brought from different countries. You can also visit the archaeological site of Acozac, the Tlapacoya archaeological site and museum, or stroll through Zoquiapan National Park.

Let’s talk a little more about the archaeological zone of Acozac: its name in the Nahuatl language means flagstone road. The building dedicated to Quetzalcoatl, the god of the wind, the Palace, full of rooms and objects that make one think that it was occupied by rulers and priests or the three pyramidal constructions that are called altars.

The archaeological site of Tlapacoya and the site museum are located on El El Elephante hill. The period of greatest expansion was during the years 400 B.C and 200 A.D. The main attractions are the pyramidal base and the tombs that were found inside.

Zoquiapan National Park, one of the largest parks in this territory where you can take long walks, reconnect with nature and also have an incredible time with your loved ones. He carries a fully loaded camera to take spectacular pictures to show later.

Mexico Basin

The municipality is located in the south central part of the Basin of Mexico. This is a group of valleys: the Valley of Mexico, the Valley of Cuautitlan, the Valley of Apan and the Valley of Tizayuca. This in turn is surrounded by different mountain ranges, which are Ajusco, de las Cruces, Monte Alto, Nevada, Río Frío, Chichinautzin, Calpulalpan, Pachuca, Tepozán, Tezontlalpan, Monte Bajo and Tepotzotlán.
