Chihuahuan Desert
The Chihuahuan Desert is one of the largest deserts in the Americas, located in the United States and Mexico. It covers an area of more than 600,000 square kilometers that include the Sierra Madre Oriental and Occidental. It is composed of lakes, rivers or lagoons, among others. It is home to more than 400 different species of birds, reptiles and fish.
The Chihuahuan Desert Museum, founded in 2019, is entirely dedicated to this natural area, with an environmental music room, a temporary exhibition room and 4 permanent rooms. You can see different natural objects, such as plants or animals that lived and still live in this territory.
Altar Desert
The Altar Desert stands out, in addition to its biodiversity, for being full of active star-shaped dunes. These dunes have a length of between 200 to 1500 meters high, leaving landscapes worthy of another world. It has been a Biosphere Reserve since 2016.
El Pinacate
The Pinacate Biosphere Reserve is within the Sonoran Desert, which is also part of Baja California, Arizona or California. Among its main attractions are the volcanic cones and craters. This, together with the Altar Desert, forms one of the largest territories with these characteristics in the northern part of the continent.
It has been part of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Reserve network since 1995, and is also part of the Sonoran Desert Sister Reserves network, among others.
Sonoran Desert
The expanse of the Sonoran Desert stretches between the United States and Mexico, although its name comes from the Mexican state of Sonora. It is one of the hottest deserts in existence today. Despite this, there are several species of fauna and flora that live there, such as cacti and scorpions.
Even the Seri community, an indigenous people, still inhabits some areas of this arid desert. Their livelihood is fishing and hunting, in addition to the sale of handicrafts made from wood.
Samalayuca Dunes
The Salamayuca Dunes are located in the state of Chihuahua, in the region of the same name. These are mountains of fine white sand where sports activities such as jeep or snowboarding are practiced. They are also perfect landscapes to immortalize through photographs or simply to stroll and enjoy the beautiful view.
