The Mayan museum in Cancun is located in Quintana Roo, at kilometer 16.5 of Kukulcan Boulevard. Admission to the museum also includes access to the San Miguelito archaeological site.
History and information about the Mayan Museum in Cancun
Museum hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. If you are also going to enter the archaeological zone of San Miguelito you should know that its access hours are from Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 17:00.
Designed by the architect Alberto García Lascurain and thanks to the help of the National Institute of Anthropology and History, today we can contemplate the Mayan Museum in Cancun, inaugurated in 1982.
The museum was previously located at the Cancun Convention Center. It has been closed for several seasons due to hurricane damage, but even with the problems that have occurred, it is currently open and teaching culture and history to the inhabitants of Cancun and tourists interested in the Mayan culture.
At the entrance of the museum you can see a group of sculptures by the artist Jan Hendrix. The rooms in which it is exhibited are made of glass, giving the possibility to see outside but also very resistant. The views from inside the property are of the Nichupté lagoon and the San Miguelito area.

Access to San Miguelito from the Mayan Museum of Cancun
As we mentioned, the entrance fee also includes access to the archaeological site of San Miguelito. You can reach it through a path from the lower part of the museum. In the surroundings of the area, you will see the vast vegetation that has been recovered and that will make your walk through the area very pleasant.
You will see several complexes formed by structures that are believed to have been houses where the inhabitants lived before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors.
In addition, you will see ancient architectural complexes that were once palaces with large interior spaces where ceremonies and celebrations were held in the past. The most important part of the archaeological zone is a foundation where the ancient remains of a temple are preserved. It is believed that this structure is related to the also ancient archaeological site of El Rey.
