The famous Hierve el Agua waterfalls

They are a system of petrified waterfalls formed millions of years ago. It is also a protected natural area, which has become one of the major ecotourism attractions in the state of Oaxaca. It is formed by two waterfalls and has a somewhat special shape.

It has also been a very important place for expert archaeologists, geologists and biologists who have wanted to study these curious formations.

Its condition is due to the petrification that has been generated in both waterfalls by the presence of calcium carbonate in the water. They have geometric shapes that fall from a height of between 30 and 10 meters in respective waterfalls. If you go down and look at the waterfalls from your location, you will be able to see how impressive they are.

Currently, the area of the spring has been used to create a natural spa with warm water at 24 and 26 degrees Celsius. We will also find natural pools that have acquired the name of ”the amphitheater”.
