What to do in Mérida, Yucatan

Thanks to the official website of the Mérida City Council, you can find great plans to enjoy every day in the city. Among them, we recommend a visit to the Municipal Palace, one of the oldest buildings in Mérida.

You also can’t miss the Parque de las Américas, a building built in 1943. This is one of the most famous spaces in the city and is divided into four parts, each more interesting and fun than the last.

For art lovers, the Museum of the Yucatecan Song is a must-see. This 19th-century building screams culture wherever you look: sculptures, monuments, beautiful architecture… Its more than eight rooms with different exhibitions will make you want to spend hours inside.

We continue the list of must-sees by mentioning the Pasaje Picheta Shopping Center, in the city center. If you’re looking for a day of various indulgences, restaurants serving delicious food, and, ultimately, a day focused on you, here’s a great recommendation.

The second largest cathedral in the country is located in Mérida and is called the Cathedral of San Ildefonso. Construction began in 1561 and remains one of the most important religious buildings you’ll find in the Mexican city.

Leave the city behind and head to Hacienda Santa Cruz Palomeque, a small haven of peace very close to Mérida. This hacienda promises to be a pleasant experience where you can take a break from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis and sample delicious local cuisine.

Another way to unwind and experience more of the city’s nature and history is at the Xoclán Archaeological Park. This ancient Mayan city, inhabited for almost four centuries, still houses many of the pre-Hispanic constructions from the period. There you can see pyramidal buildings, sacbes, and dirt roads, among many other interesting sights.
