Mérida, capital of the state of Yucatán
To see first-hand all the most important attractions in the state of Yucatán, you will have to take a tour of the capital city of Mérida. Nor can you miss its surroundings, full of charm and secrets to discover.
Mérida
The capital, a city that shares its name with the also well-known Spanish territory, is a beautiful place to visit. It has been its historic center, its cultural and religious buildings, streets and monuments that have given personality and great importance to the Mexican territory.
Special mention to the Yucatecan gastronomy of which you will end up in love: reserve part of your vacation money to visit the best restaurants recommended by the locals.
Izamal
The city of Izamal is another beautiful destination to visit at least once in a lifetime during your stay in Mérida. Just by looking at the photographs of the yellow and white facades so representative of the colonial city, you will be able to recognize the streets of the colonial city.
It is currently on the list of magical towns in Mexico, a fantastic fact that will serve to plan a getaway and walk its streets from top to bottom. The pyramids of Izamal are also widely known, especially Kinich Kakmó, in reference to the god Kinich.
If you like diving, swimming and anything to do with splashing, reserve a day at Lakin Hal cenote. Its shallow waters are perfect for not so experienced divers who want to have a great time.
Uxmal, Mérida
Uxmal, the destination you have to visit, was one of the ancient Mayan cities located in the Mexican country. Its great cultural importance has given it the popularity it deserves, attracting thousands of visitors every day.
To visit this site, you must go to the state of Yucatan, specifically south of the city of Merida. Within the precinct you have great points of interest, as well as two different ways of getting to know the archaeological site (one more complete than the other).
What buildings will you see inside? First of all, the Pyramid of the Soothsayer, the largest monument composed of different structures, each of which houses a temple. You can’t miss the Quadrangle of Nuns, a large building with a staircase that resembles a convent.
Puerto Progreso, the beach of the capital
Considered by many to be the most popular beach in the area, Puerto Progreso beach does not disappoint those who visit it. A 30-minute drive from the capital is the perfect disconnection: beach, restaurants, water activities and lots of fun for everyone.
Merida’s beaches in Yucatan
If after going to the beach of Puerto Progreso you still want to swim in more coasts, we recommend a few more beaches so that you end up with a good taste in your mouth.
Very close to Puerto Progreso you have Chixulub beach, perfect to go with family and small children. Another of the closest beaches is Chelem, famous for its sunsets: if you like pictures and social networks, you have to take a report during your visit.
