General information about Nichupté Lagoon

The Nichupté Lagoon, considered a natural reserve, is formed by no less than seven lakes: North Basin, Central Basin, South Basin, Borjóquez Lagoon, English River, Mediterranean Lagoon, and the Laguna del Amor. These are both saltwater and freshwater.

All of them are connected to the Caribbean Sea through two canals: the Siegfried Canal and the Nizuc Canal. Its surface area exceeds 3,000 hectares and is publicly accessible. Nichupté divides Cancun’s hotel zone located on the coast and downtown.

The lagoon is surrounded by mangroves, being the natural habitat of many species of plants, animals, fish…you can find from iguanas, turtles to crocodiles and leopards. You will have to be very attentive to see firsthand everything that Nichupte hides.

To get around the Nichupté Lagoon there are boats, kayaks and jet skis. You can hire tours that take you to all the unknown places of the lagoon, or that include what you want to know in your day in this natural area. You can also spend the day on its shores, take a walk and enjoy a pleasant and quiet day with your family.

Among the different activities you can do is scuba diving and/or snorkeling in its waters, since they are not very deep, it will not be difficult to carry out this plan. Sport fishing, water sports, wildlife and flora of the area, among others.
