Ixtapaluca would be translated as place where salt is wet. This Mexican municipality was granted the rank of municipality in 1820. It would be almost 100 years before the territory began the process of industrialization and achieved one of its major livelihoods: the El Tigre gypsum factory.

This is a group of valleys: the Valley of Mexico, the Valley of Cuautitlan, the Valley of Apan and the Valley of Tizayuca.
