On the occasion of the Christmas holidays, you may have wanted to take a closer look at one of the territories known for its craftsmanship, festivities and much more. Welcome to Tlalpujahua.

Tlalpujahua de Rayón

This magical town is of mining origin, but is now known for being one of the largest producers of handmade Christmas balls. If you make a visit, you will have to get your hands on decorative objects to give as gifts or take home as souvenirs.

This is why many citizens work in family workshops, one of their main economic engines. Guided tours are available to visit these glassblowing and plumary art workshops and see the manufacturing processes up close.

Leaving aside the artisanal manufacturing, there are also places within the territory worthy of contemplation. For example, the Sierra Chincua Sanctuary is perfect for observing monarch butterflies, beautiful orange and black insects.

If this activity is to your liking, go directly to the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve during the months of November and March, which is its hibernation season. You will see thousands of these butterflies, as well as roads, bridges and more.

Another of the city’s tourist attractions is the Dos Estrellas Mine. It was one of the world’s first gold producers in the last century, a historical fact that is reflected in the on-site museum inside.

Finally, special mention should be made of the convent and chapel of San Francisco as well as the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, both religious buildings.

Do you want to know more about the sphere fair? This takes place throughout the month of October and the first weeks of December. It is in those days where you can observe the professional work done day after day by the artisans of Tlalpujahua.

Although the object that attracts the most attention is the sphere, the other Christmas ornaments, silver work, furniture and much more should not be overlooked. You can also visit the different workshops where other types of handmade products are manufactured.

For example, we can find the Casa Morales or the Casa de la Conserva, where fruit-based liquors and sweets are made. There is also the Santa Claus Workshop or the Craft Workshop, both dedicated to Christmas decorations or glass figures.
