History of the city of Teotihuacan

It was the Aztecs who named Teotihuacan, a metropolis that was found in ruins when they arrived. The ancient civilization that built and inhabited this place left no record of the name of the place, hence it has come down to our days with the name given to it by the Mexica.

These societies used the site to develop their lives, but also for religious celebrations and worship. The Aztecs also used Teotihuacan for prayers and sacred rites.

Teotihuacan was the nerve center of a very important Mesoamerican society, and has been the subject of research since the 18th century. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987.
